The Gordian Knot

About

24 October 2005

In June 2005, Sirsi and Dynix, two important library automation vendors, merged to form SirsiDynix. Part of the strength of both of those companies through their respective histories has been the active role taken by their customers in making their products — and their companies — better and stronger.

The Gordian Knot is an independent effort — not sponsored by SirsiDynix, CODI or UUGI — to try to begin bringing those users together to make their voices heard at this important time of development of the new, merged company. It’s important for customers of Sirsi products and Dynix products to get to know each other — and to get to know each other’s products and ideas — so that the future direction of the merged company can really be about taking the best qualities of its products and moving them forward in response to the needs of libraries and their patrons.

We’d like for The Gordian Knot to become a collaborative space for customers to talk about news from the merged company and its customer libraries, discuss the features and foibles of its products, report on national and regional user group conferences and other meetings, and look at important trends and new developments in librarianship and discuss how we would like to see the company respond. We’re hoping to really get this new blog kicked off with some good blog coverage of CODI’s 2005 conference, to be held in Minneapolis, 7-9 November 2005.

Please join us. This blog is open to the public to read and comment; if you are a SirsiDynix customer and you’re interested in being a contributor to this collaborative blog, please register for an account and email Luke Rosenberger at lukethelibrarian [at] gmail [dot] com.

P.S. If you’re wondering where the name came from: it’s a playful effort to “tie in” SirsiDynix’s post-merger PR theme with an ancient legend.
