How-to
We want this blog to be more than just a place where you stop by to read “the news” — we want this to be a dynamic, collaborative community with your participation! So if you’re new to blogs and blogging, here’s a brief guide to some of the ways you can get involved:
0. Subscribe and read from your favorite aggregator or portal. You don’t have to come to this website to see what’s new. Articles, posts, and other content on The Gordian Knot are syndicated via RSS 2.0, RSS 0.92 and Atom 0.3 feeds, so you can subscribe using your favorite aggregator — or even add it to any portal that supports RSS, like My Yahoo! As an example, you can click the following button
to add The Gordian Knot to your My Yahoo! page.
1. Search and browse the archives. Hopefully this will become a resource that will include useful reference material for you. You can browse past posts by category or by date by using the appropriate link on the right side of the blog; likewise, you can use the “Search” box to do a full-text search of all blog content.
2. Comment on blog posts/articles. To comment on the blog posts or articles you read, simply use the “Leave a comment” box at the bottom of the article. If you don’t see a comments box, click the title of the article or the “Comments” link at the end of the article, then scroll down to the bottom. You don’t need to register on the site to comment on existing posts or articles on the blog — just provide the information requested (or an alias) and add your comment. If you are already registered and signed into the site, however, it should recognize you and automatically post under your username.
3. Register as part of our community. You can register for an account on The Gordian Knot by using the “Register” link in the lower-right corner, under the heading “Meta”. You will be asked to enter the username you wish to use, and your email address. An initial (random) password will be emailed to you at that address. Return to the site and login with that username and password and you’ll have an opportunity to change the password to one of your choice. Whenever you are logged in and wish to comment on stories, you will automatically be recognized and your comment will be posted under your username.
4. Post new blog entries or articles to the blog. If you’d like to join us as a blogger on the site, please start by registering for an account (see #3 above). Then please email me at lukethelibrarian [at] gmail [dot] com and let me know you’d like to be a Gordian Knot Blogger, and I’ll set you up. Once I confirm that you’re set up to post, you can just log in, click “Write,” write your entry and click “Publish” — it’s just that easy to get started!
